About the role
The Cyclotron-Support Engineer I operates and maintains particle accelerators in SOFIE’s PET radiopharmacy, which manufactures PET diagnostics under 21 CFR 212 guidelines. This role involves performing routine and emergency maintenance, diagnosing and repairing electronic and mechanical equipment, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Operate the cyclotron(s) according to proper operating procedures, including night and weekend shifts.
- Perform routine and non-routine maintenance on the cyclotron(s).
- Document cyclotron operations, including preventative maintenance and repair logs.
- Plan and execute accelerator maintenance activities on a schedule determined by the Tech Services management team.
- Diagnose and repair electronic equipment, electro-pneumatic systems, high vacuum systems, deionized chilled water systems, high voltage, target, and high-power RF systems.
- Maintain and repair all PET manufacturing equipment, including lead-shielded hot cells, manipulator arms, radiosynthesizers, etc.
- Oversee third-party contractors on equipment related to manufacturing.
- Ensure compliance with radiation safety and quality assurance programs.
- Provide technical training and support to other employees.
- Provide after-hours on-call support as needed.
- Submit work tickets, time cards, and expense reports in a timely manner.
Requirements
- 2+ years of cyclotron experience or an Associate Degree in a Technical Discipline.
- Working knowledge of digital and analog circuitry.
- Able to troubleshoot electronics down to the component level.
- Ability to understand the detailed theory of operation for most accelerator systems.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Knowledge of radiation survey meters.
- Experience in diagnosis and repair of equipment failures.
- Experience with high voltage training.
- Knowledge of basic cGMP practices and procedures.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Experience working with radioactive materials.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs, work in protective clothing, operate in confined spaces, and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Occupational exposure to ionizing radiation.
- Excellent communication skills, ability to be detail-oriented, and dependability.
- Experienced in Microsoft Suite.
- Travel: up to 20%.
