CyberSecurity / System Engineer
About the role
P17 Solutions is seeking a mid-to-senior level Cybersecurity / System Engineer to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Resiliency, Innovation, Sustainment, and Engineering (RISE) Contract. This is a hybrid, remote or on-site, full-time position.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a key cybersecurity and systems engineering expert, supporting FAA programs by implementing and maintaining secure infrastructure, ensuring compliance with federal security requirements, and enabling mission-critical modernization initiatives.
- Work across multiple FAA programs, applying expertise in system hardening, vulnerability management, security assessments, and authorization processes to protect enterprise and cloud environments.
- Coordinate with engineering teams to ensure technical compliance and alignment with system requirements.
- Lead security assessment activities, including vulnerability scanning, remediation coordination, and risk mitigation.
- Support systems through the ATO (Authority to Operate) lifecycle, including preparation of security artifacts and collaboration with assessment teams.
- Absorb and resolve security issues quickly to minimize risk and program delays.
- Provide expert guidance on security architecture decisions across multiple programs.
- Apply risk-based decision-making and balance security requirements with engineering realities.
- Identify, prioritize, and resolve security issues quickly to minimize risk and program delays.
- Translate security requirements for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or other Government Agency
- Deep expertise in implementing and managing NIST SP 800-53 security controls, including control selection, tailoring, documentation, and ongoing maintenance
- Proven ability to coordinate with engineering teams to ensure technical compliance and alignment with system requirements
- Experience leading security assessment activities, including vulnerability scanning, remediation coordination, and risk mitigation
- Strong understanding of system hardening, secure configuration baselines, and operational security constraints
- Demonstrated ability to support systems through the ATO (Authority to Operate) lifecycle, including preparation of security artifacts and collaboration with assessment teams
- Ability to assess control effectiveness and maintain audit-ready evidence in dynamic environments
- Experience identifying, prioritizing, and resolving security issues quickly to minimize risk and program delays
- Ability to provide expert guidance on security architecture decisions across multiple programs
- Skilled in applying risk-based decision-making and balancing security requirements with engineering realities
- Strong knowledge of federal cybersecurity requirements and their practical implementation
- Experience standardizing security practices across teams to improve consistency and efficiency
- Ability to reduce rework and accelerate delivery through established best practices and institutional knowledge
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities in complex, multi-system environments
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate security requirements for technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Proven ability to work across multiple teams and manage competing priorities without compromising quality
- Demonstrated leadership in driving security initiatives and fostering collaboration between engineering, security, and assessment teams
Skills and Education
- Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
- 5–10+ years of experience in cybersecurity, system security engineering, or security architecture
- Hands-on experience supporting federal or regulated environments (FAA or Govt Agency)
- Experience managing multiple systems or programs simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Benefits
At P17 Solutions, we offer a competitive compensation and benefits package designed to support you both personally and professionally. The salary range for positions is $120,000 to $150,000. This range is provided as a general guideline and should not be interpreted as a guarantee of compensation. Actual salary offers will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the specific responsibilities of the position, the candidate's education, experience and location. In addition, compensation may be influenced by applicable Federal Government contract labor categories and established contract wage rates.
Pay
The estimated salary range for this position is $154,568 per year.
Schedule
This is a full-time position offering flexible work arrangements, including remote, hybrid, and on-site options. The role primarily involves computer-based work, requiring extended periods of sitting and focused attention on system engineering, cybersecurity tasks, and technical documentation. Occasional collaboration with team members or stakeholders may require standing or moving between workstations, and/or a collaboration and communication platform such as MS Teams.
