Cybersecurity Advisor - Threat Management | Remote, North East, NYC
About the Role
The Cybersecurity Advisor (or Security Advisor / SA) serves as a trusted partner to Optiv’s clients, combining sales skills and broad security practitioner knowledge to design tailored security solutions. This remote position can be based anywhere in the North East (preferably near NYC) or near Minneapolis, MN, IL, or WI (preferably WI). The SA will primarily focus on Threat Management, with additional expertise in one or more of the following areas: Data Protection & AI, Cloud Security/DevSecOps, Endpoint Security, Identity, Network Security, and Operations (SOC, SIEM, SOAR, UEBA, Threat Intelligence).
Responsibilities
- Drive the generation of services and technologies business to meet or exceed quarterly and annual quota objectives in partnership with account teams.
- Understand and maintain knowledge of the client’s security environment, business operations, security needs, and risk appetite.
- Identify security concerns and correlate them to Optiv’s strategic solutions across assigned domains and holistic cybersecurity programs.
- Actively participate in the Field Center of Excellence for the assigned domain and position Optiv services and key technology partners to deliver value to clients.
- Identify cross-sell and upsell opportunities across clients and Optiv's partner relationships.
- Qualify leads, determine scope, manage proposals, and follow through to closure.
- Participate in sales opportunities across Optiv's entire portfolio.
- Articulate how Optiv’s technology and services portfolio meets client needs at the leadership level.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and maintain a broad understanding of the security landscape to facilitate thought leadership.
- Collaborate with service delivery teams to ensure consistent and comprehensive domain specialty materials.
- Develop security strategies and roadmaps aligned with business goals, budgetary spend, and ROI metrics.
- Maintain advisory relationships with key stakeholders by providing thought leadership, support, and guidance.
- Design and solution complete security programs to meet client objectives across technology and services.
- Interface with internal Optiv teams to align client expectations and ensure service delivery excellence.
- Participate in account planning, forecasting, and pipeline management activities.
- Manage and prioritize the proposal process, including RFI/RFP responses.
- Pursue personal development through education, certifications, and other avenues.
Qualifications
- BS/BA or equivalent and/or applicable work experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years in an information security role focused on Threat Management, preferably as a consulting advisor, architect, or engineer.
- Expertise in Application Security Tools, Vulnerability Management, Threat Management / Hunting, Enterprise Incident Management, Forensics / eDiscovery, Threat Intelligence Platforms, and Asset Management.
- Preferred certifications: CISSP, CISA, CRISC, CISM, GIAC, or other relevant professional cybersecurity certifications.
- Experience speaking and evangelizing technology vision at events.
- Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently.
- Strong business and technical acumen, with the ability to lead technology-focused discussions.
- Strong presentation, written, and oral communication skills.
- Attention to detail for reviewing statements of work (SOWs), quotes, and client deliverables.
- Ability to travel around 25% or as needed.
Skills
- Proficient sales techniques, including facilitating meetings, asking probing questions, overcoming objections, and finalizing sales.
- Thorough understanding of the current threat landscape, vulnerabilities, and defensive controls.
- Ability to work in a highly adaptable and nimble team environment with responsive communication.
- Vendor-specific certification(s) focused on the specialty area.
Pay
Total Target Compensation: $170,000 – $230,000+ Annually. Includes base salary and an uncapped bonus plan based on new and renewal business.
