About The Role The Cybersecurity Systems Engineer at GovCIO plays a critical role in safeguarding our IT infrastructure by integrating and maintaining robust cybersecurity controls across diverse environments. This fully remote position requires a strategic thinker with hands-on experience in IT operations, engineering, and cybersecurity. The engineer will oversee the day-to-day management of Linux and Windows servers, ensuring system integrity through patching, upgrades, and vulnerability scanning. They will monitor network performance using advanced tools such as SolarWinds, NetScout, Cisco Prime, and Splunk, promptly escalating issues to maintain system availability. Additionally, the role involves reviewing and implementing security configurations on firewalls and other security devices, creating change requests for network modifications, and ensuring seamless interoperability of security tools across cloud and on-premises environments. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed cybersecurity controls into IT projects, ensuring compliance with frameworks like NIST 800-53 rev 5 and the Cybersecurity Framework. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to national security initiatives while working remotely within the United States. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience12+ years of professional experience in IT operations, cybersecurity, or related fieldsMinimum of 6 years’ experience in cybersecurity roles, with at least 2 years in cybersecurity engineeringAt least 5 years of operational experience with Linux servers, Windows servers, and security devices such as IDS/IPS, firewalls, proxy servers, and web application firewallsMinimum of 2 years’ experience integrating IT projects with commercial cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP)At least 2 years’ experience utilizing automation platforms for system orchestrationProficiency in Python coding, with at least 1 year of demonstrated work experienceIn-depth understanding of the Risk Management Framework, NIST 800-53 rev 5, and Cybersecurity FrameworksStrong knowledge of advanced networking, operating systems, and cybersecurity architecturesAbility to attain and maintain an AOUSC Public Trust clearance Responsibilities Maintain and support Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) and Windows servers through patching, upgrades, and vulnerability scansMonitor network performance and security using tools such as SolarWinds, NetScout, Cisco Prime, and Splunk; escalate issues as necessaryReview and implement security configurations on firewalls, IDS/IPS, and other security devicesCreate and manage change requests related to network and security configurations to ensure continuous connectivity and securityIntegrate cybersecurity controls into IT projects, ensuring compliance with federal standards and frameworksEnsure interoperability of security tools across cloud and on-premises environmentsCollaborate with cross-functional teams to embed security best practices into operational workflowsAssist in incident response and threat mitigation activities as part of the cybersecurity teamDocument system configurations, security procedures, and compliance activities Benefits Competitive salary range of USD $150,000 to USD $170,000 annuallyFlexible, fully remote work environment within the United StatesComprehensive health benefits packageEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)Corporate discounts and wellness programsAccess to Learning & Development platforms, including certification preparationTraining, education, and certification assistance for career growthReferral bonus programInternal mobility opportunitiesPet insurance options Equal Opportunity GovCIO is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
