Cyber Security Development Program Associate - 2027

About the role

Full-time new hires for this role will start as a cohort in a rotational program in August 2027. This role is a full-time associate position within an 18-month rotational program designed as a career accelerator to foster the next generation of leading cyber talent.

Participation in the program requires that you are located in the continental United States with in-person attendance at your assigned location, in accordance with Capital One’s hybrid working model.

Responsibilities

• Support compliance initiatives and shape security policies that govern enterprise-wide protection
• Conduct penetration tests, assess vulnerabilities, or design defenses to harden systems
• Analyze cyber data to understand weaknesses in defenses and opportunities to improve the security posture of the environment
• Participate in a variety of other key rotational assignments across the full breadth of the Cyber Security domain
• Collaborate closely with associates in Cyber, Technology, lines of business, and risk management offices

Requirements

• Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelor’s degree or higher with an expectation that you will complete your most recent full-time degree program by August 2027 or earlier

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical and/or quantitative discipline, including computer science, computer engineering, cyber security, information assurance, information systems, information technology, or mathematics
• Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles, network concepts, digital forensics, and operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux)
• Knowledge of the basics of network security and protocols (e.g., encryption, firewalls, authentication, perimeter protection)
• Strong interest in cybersecurity and a desire to explore multiple domains before specializing
• Coursework in IT fundamentals, cloud security, cryptography, network security, and/or data security
• Knowledge of industry-standard cybersecurity frameworks (NIST Cybersecurity Framework, MITRE ATT&CK)
• Hands-on experience or coursework in digital forensics, malware analysis, or incident response
• Strong analytical, quantitative, problem-solving, and conceptual skills
• Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
• Basic programming skills or experience in one or more of the following areas: Java, Python, C#, C/C++, JSON, SQL, PL/SQL, Shell scripts
• Experience leveraging interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity, utilizing capabilities beyond basic code completion

Pay

• McLean, VA: $140,000
• Plano, TX: $127,000

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered will be reflected in the candidate’s offer letter. This role is also eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives.
