About the Role

The Cyber Security Administrator is responsible for managing the University’s information security by managing application security, monitoring network security, responding to security incidents, and providing security awareness training.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors information security by reviewing industry security advisories, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, performing risk assessments and auditing systems, and monitoring data security.
  • Manages and maintains information security by managing network security devices, application security, developing tools, performing forensic investigations and incident response, and conducting preliminary assessments of network and application security models.
  • Promotes information security awareness by maintaining a security website, presenting security topics to groups, and training department users on system security.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a computer-related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5 or more years of experience working with Information Technology.
  • One or more approved IT Cyber Security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CEH, Security+, SSCP, CCSP) are desirable.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Basic knowledge of Local Area Networks, TCP/IP protocols, multiple operating systems (Windows, Unix, Linux, etc.), enterprise applications, enterprise change control methodology, and documentation processes.
  • Basic knowledge of network security devices (firewall, IDS/IPS, etc.), authentication protocols and methods (NTLM, Kerberos, etc.), and encryption algorithms.
  • Basic knowledge of forensic and incident management techniques, as well as compliance and regulatory issues.
  • Ability to manage network security devices, application security, and related tools.
  • Ability to perform preliminary assessments and audits of network and application security models.
  • Ability to monitor industry security advisories, maintain current cyber security skills, and administer and provide security education programs.
  • Knowledge of enterprise change control methodology and documentation processes.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team to fulfill project goals.

Physical Requirements

  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms, and other printed materials.
  • Able to speak clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing, reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, and prolonged sitting.
  • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment

  • Work is indoors and sedentary, subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
  • This is an on-campus, in-person position.
  • No harmful environmental conditions are present for this job.
  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
