Cyber Policy and Strategy Planner
About the role
The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) seeks a detail-oriented technology professional to support the emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) Safety Reporting Program. This role involves designing and refining AI safety policies, analyzing incident reports, and preparing legislative reports.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze AI safety incident reports
- Compile and interpret data for annual reporting
- Coordinate with partners from Cal-CSIC, CDT, and others
- Support continuous improvement of statewide reporting processes
Requirements
- Deep technical and cybersecurity subject matter expertise
- Strong writing and critical thinking skills
- Ability to manage multiple assignments
- Experience in AI, policy analysis, reporting processes, sensitive information handling, or multi-stakeholder coordination
Qualifications
- Understanding of risk management and cybersecurity policies
- Familiarity with legal and regulatory frameworks
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations
- Experience with emerging technologies like AI, ML, and quantum computing
- Effective communication skills for stakeholder engagement
- Strategic planning and policy development experience
- Collaborative experience with partners

Pay
This is a 12-month limited term (LT) position, which may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent, pending final budget approval.
Schedule
The position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule which may include up to one day of remote work per week. Additional in-office days may be required based on business needs.
