Cyber Policy and Strategy Planner
About the role
The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) seeks a detail-oriented technology professional to support the emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) Safety Reporting Program. This role involves designing and refining AI safety policies, analyzing incident reports, and preparing legislative reports.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze AI safety incident reports
- Compile and interpret data for annual reporting
- Coordinate with partners from Cal-CSIC, CDT, and others
- Support continuous improvement of statewide reporting processes
Requirements
Deep technical and cybersecurity subject matter expertise, strong writing and critical thinking skills, ability to manage multiple assignments, interpret laws and policies, communicate clearly with executives and stakeholders, and work collaboratively in a fast-moving environment.
Qualifications
- Experience in AI, policy analysis, reporting processes, sensitive information handling, or multi-stakeholder coordination is highly desirable.
Skills
Understanding how to assess and manage risks to develop effective cybersecurity policies, familiarity with relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, strong understanding of federal, state, and local laws and regulations, demonstrated knowledge of emerging technologies and their cybersecurity implications, strong communication abilities, ability to analyze complex situations and make sound decisions for strategic planning and policy development, experience working in collaborative environments with partners.
