We are currently seeking a Cyber Engineer to support operations in Charleston, SC. This is a full-time CONUS position requiring an active DoD Top-Secret clearance. What You’ll Do As a Cyber Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting the Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic (NIWC Atlantic) Expeditionary Enterprise Systems and Services (E2S2) Division. NIWC Atlantic provides design, acquisition, and sustainment services for Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC) Information Technology (IT) systems). This role falls under Cyber Security Engineer within our compensation framework. This position reports to Steve Dellinger. You will: Ensures that the product/service and process meet quality and safety standardsTesting equipment to make sure that the process operates effectively and safelyInterpret plans and drawings and contribute to the design and fabrication of test specimensPlanning, implementing, upgrading, and monitoring cybersecurity measures to enhance cyber defense and maintain a resilient, secure network. Assess vulnerabilities, propose and execute remediation and risk mitigation strategies, and ensure appropriate security controls are in place to safeguard digital assets and critical infrastructureThis position requires a balance of technical expertise, hands-on problem solving, and experience in cybersecurity policy, compliance, and system protection in alignment with DoD standards and mission objectivesPlan, implement, upgrade, and monitor cybersecurity measures to strengthen and maintain network defenseAssess cybersecurity vulnerabilities for risk and propose and implement remediation actions or risk mitigation strategiesEnsure security controls and countermeasures are properly implemented to protect digital files and networked systemsRespond to cybersecurity incidents and breaches, re-establish protections, and produce required documentation and reportsPrepare, implement, and ensure compliance with cybersecurity policies, including Assessment and Authorization (A&A) requirementsDeploy and operate enterprise tools that support advanced threat hunting, detection, and monitoring capabilitiesImplement network inspection and packet capture systems to identify and mitigate potential threatsPerform equipment installation and configuration, maintaining high standards of cable management and system organizationCollaborate with engineering, cyber, and program teams to maintain compliance with DoD, NIWC Atlantic, and MCSC cybersecurity standardsPlans, develops, and implements proven high-tech solutions to increase security and defend against hacking, malware and ransomware, insider threats, and other types of cybercrimesOversees monitoring of computer networks, identifies security issues, and anticipates security breachesExecutes the installation and maintenance of security programs, plans, and software, including firewalls and data encryption programs What You’ll Bring Required Qualifications: Must be proficient in using different technologies such as computers and other tools and systems pertinent to the position. Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity; Computer, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering; or Mathematics with a concentration in Computer Science, or an equivalent discipline is required. The degree program must be accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)The individual must hold a position-based certification at Level I in Information Assurance Management (IAM), Information Assurance Technical (IAT), or Information Assurance System Architect and Engineer (IASAE), in accordance with DoD 8570.1M requirementsTechnical Expertise: Strong Trained in the skills and techniques related to engineering and/or software design/maintenancePossess a practical understanding of engineering conceptsClearance:Must have a current and active DoD Top-Secret security clearancePreferred (Nice to Have): SIEM Platforms: Azure Sentinel, Splunk, or ElasticSearch for event correlation and incident analysisNetwork Visibility Tools: Gigamon, NetFlow, or equivalent for enhanced traffic monitoring and flow analysisFirewall Technologies: Experience configuring and maintaining Palo Alto Networks NGFW or similar solutionsBig Data Platforms: Familiarity with BDP-CHAOS (USMC Big Data Platform for Cyber Information) or related analytics environmentsSSL Break-and-Inspect solutions for outbound traffic inspection and decryptionWorking knowledge of DoD cybersecurity frameworks and defense IT compliance standards Physical & Work Environment Requirements Periods of prolonged sitting and/or standing, including desk-based computer workTravel between work locations, including company offices, customer sites, and government installations. Transport and use of work equipment, such as laptops and job-related tools, during site visits. Work is performed in a secure facility where personal electronic devices (including Bluetooth- or Wi-Fi-enabled devices) may be restricted. Work may be performed in industrial or potentially hazardous environments, including around heavy machinery and moving equipment. Regular exposure to outdoor conditions and varying weather. Physical activities may include bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials, consistent with established one-person lift guidelines. Use of tools, equipment, and machinery as required for the role. Work at elevated heights using ladders, scaffolding, boom lifts, or scissor lifts. Communication with team members, customers, and stakeholders through verbal and written methods. Ability to manage competing priorities, work under deadlines, and maintain attention to detail. Interaction with others in dynamic environments, including situations requiring problem-solving and conflict resolution.
