About the role
Assist in small group and individual pupil instruction.
Responsibilities
- Aid in student instruction under the guidance of the special education teacher.
- Maintain classroom discipline.
- Support instructional activities.
- Escort students between rooms.
- May involve toileting students.
- Supervise students during recess and lunch.
- Assist with classroom assignments.
- Copy materials for instructional purposes.
- Prepare and file necessary paperwork.
- Alert teachers to potential issues.
- Support teaching staff in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
- Two years of college credit OR an associate's (or higher) degree.
- Successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment covering content knowledge in mathematics, reading, and writing, along with an understanding of how to assist in the instruction of these topics.
- Basic computer skills including familiarity with job-related hardware and software applications.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring attention to detail and problem-solving.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical ability to perform duties including lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance.
