CV IR Tech Extern-1

The Cardiovascular Technologist/Interventional Extern is a temporary position for students that provide support for the delivery of a full range of medical imaging and/or interventional procedures, performing a variety of technical and patient care related duties enhancing the effective and efficient delivery of services under direct supervision.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Supports the Cardiovascular/Interventional Technologists in the planning and execution of imaging procedures meeting the standards of the department.
• Greets patients upon arrival to the department and consistently facilitates the patient’s department experience.
• Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.
• Under direct supervision, provides direct patient care as needed to facilitate imaging services including but not limited to sterile tray set up, prepping patient, pulling of supplies, scrub procedures, circulating, and initiate fluoro.
• Aids in patient preparation by assisting patient gowning, and transfer to exam table.
• Captures the inpatient department flow by maintaining communication between the department and patient floors.
• Assists the patient, as applicable, in assessing their needs related to comfort, and providing support accordingly.
• Escorts the patient to and from the procedure suite and assists as needed with patient arrival and departure from the department.
• Promotes the team approach by positively interacting with the technical, support, nursing, residents and medical staff.
• Engages in problem solving, crisis management and systems implementation throughout the hospital to promote and support efficient, high quality, cost effective patient care.
• Maintains confidentiality of all Protected Health Information.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for long periods of time while wearing lead aprons.
• Ability to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 40 pounds.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
• Ability to differentiate various shades of gray as depicted on a black and white television monitor or photograph.

Working Environment

• The work environment is clinical by nature.
• The work environment is occasionally exposed to: moving mechanical parts; airborne particles, body fluids, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Maintains Radiation safety.

Skills and Abilities

• Multi-task in a busy setting.
• Interact with patients, families, and members of the Health Care team.
• Deal with a variety of situations simultaneously.
• Knowledge of Radiology information systems.
