Customs Trade Specialist

About the role

Coordinate the documentation required by US Customs and Government Agencies for the entry of goods into the US on behalf of importers. Provide impeccable customer service and process commodities identified as requiring specialized handling to reduce the risk of liquidated damages and penalties through classification and proper duty preference applications.

Responsibilities

• Obtain correct classification of goods for customs release using databases, SOPs, tariff books, the internet, or customs resources.
• Perform data entry and process various import-related documentation for submission to US Customs, including handling all Participating Government Agencies (PGAs).
• Maintain and update all shipment documentation in compliance with record-keeping requirements.
• Adhere to all international importing and exporting regulations.
• Collaborate with internal staff, departments, other FedEx operating companies, customers, and government agencies to deliver a high level of service.
• Process agency brokerage shipments and handle remote filings.
• Perform entry reconciliations and reviews as needed.
• Follow up on Customs matters and resolve problems.
• Ensure compliance with all government and organizational policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 6 months of work experience required; 12 months of industry experience preferred.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience using computer systems in a professional, educational, or comparable environment, including data entry, document creation, and navigation of standard software applications.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to handle a high volume of time-sensitive work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to use multiple systems and reference materials.
• Experience interacting with customers, carriers, brokers, government agencies, internal staff, and management at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Customs clearance industry.
• Knowledge of Customs regulations and harmonized tariff schedules.
• CW (Customs Warehouse) knowledge.

Pay

This compensation range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary for this role: $23.25 - $32.55 USD per hour. Actual starting pay will be determined by experience, market level, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, onsite.
