About the role
This position involves performing customer service and technical duties in support of the meter reading and service connection/disconnection process.
Responsibilities
- Codifies the disconnect field process for non-payment;
- Delivers cut-off notice cards to customers;
- Disconnects service;
- Reconnects service following payment;
- Processes service orders;
- Advises other departments of services required to complete orders;
- Schedules orders for completion;
- Keys completed service orders;
- Re-reads questionable meters;
- Provides information to other City staff;
- Identifies meter locations on maps;
- Performs assigned after-hours duties;
- Mets customers to collect fees and restore services;
- Assists in the location of meters after-hours;
- Monitors and assists in reducing meter tampering by removing electric meters and installing locks;
- Notifies utility dispatch and supervisor of stolen meters;
- Delivers bills to Housing Authority for forwarding to customers;
- Checks businesses for City issued Privilege License Inspection Forms as dictated by work processes.
Requirements
- Knowledge of utility meter reading, including automatic reading systems;
- Knowledge of utility field operations related to customer service;
- Knowledge of credit privacy laws;
- Knowledge of safe work practices;
- Ability to analyze problems and identify solutions;
- Ability to prepare clear and accurate reports;
- Ability to establish cooperative and productive working relationships;
- Ability to set priorities for competing projects;
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations;
- Ability to operate computers and other standard office equipment;
- Ability to perform physical demands including prolonged sitting, substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, and close visual acuity;
- Ability to work in all kinds of weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, rain, etc.).
Qualifications
- Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. One (1) years' experience in a related field of work. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
