About the role
The Pinellas County Tax Collector is looking for outstanding service-minded individuals to perform advanced, analytical, and technical customer service work covering complex specialized office tasks with heavy public contact. Responsibilities include reviewing, creating, modifying, updating, and processing a wide variety of confidential records and legal documents in accordance with Florida Statutes, County Ordinances, and regulations from multiple government agencies.
Responsibilities
- Provides complex, technical, and supportive services and information to the public in person, by telephone, mail, or internet.
- Conducts investigations using various computer databases and collaborates with third-party field agents for administrative support of Bankruptcy, Delinquent tangible tax, and garnishment payment enforcement.
- Screens and verifies legal documents for citizen/non-citizen applicants prior to processing or issuance, per Federal regulations.
- Accesses Florida’s FRVIS/FDLIS online databases to research and analyze eligibility for Driver Licenses.
- Performs technical work related to DHSMV/DMV Motor Vehicle, Vessel, and other vehicle titles, registrations, decals, license plates, electronic temporary registrations, parking permits, and personalized license plates; collects sales tax for DOR.
- Handles technical work related to DHSMV/DDL Florida Driver License and Identification cards, including new, renewals, duplicates, and replacements.
- Researches, reviews, and analyzes complex legal information to determine eligibility for license reinstatement due to various sanctions, in compliance with the Federal REAL ID Act.
- Issues licenses using various online tools and websites.
- Administers vision examinations, referrals, and medical screenings; proctors and grades written, verbal, electronic, and audio examinations, including road skills tests.
- Operates specialized equipment such as cameras, card printers, scanners, signature pads, vision testing equipment, and Q-Flow queuing systems.
- Processes work related to the Organ and Tissue Donor Program and various charitable organizations, including fee and donation collection.
- Completes voter registration applications and administers the oath for Voter Registration.
- Researches, verifies, and collects real estate, personal property, and tourist development taxes using automated cashier systems like TaxSys.
- Performs specialized transactions for FFWCC, determining eligibility and issuing resident/non-resident hunting and fishing licenses.
- Accurately determines fees using complex fee schedules for all services.
- Handles complicated cash transactions, balancing, and receipting involving currency, checks, money orders, credit/debit cards, and advanced deposits.
- Uses SharePoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel as part of the Tax Collector’s Intranet community.
- Utilizes other agencies’ websites, including Property Appraiser, Clerk of Court, DOR, DHSMV, FFWCC, and the Florida Law Library.
- Customer contact (internal, external, or both) ranges from 0 – 90%, depending on assignment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 1 year of experience in a Florida Tax Collector’s Office/DHSMV agency; or
- 1 year of experience in an automated office environment, retail sales, or a related customer service/cash handling field; or
- 1 year of college-level coursework in finance, accounting, business, general studies, or computer courses and training.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver’s License upon hire, with eligibility based on Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) evaluation.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and compliant with Florida Statutes 322 (for administration of road tests).
- Must apply for and maintain Florida Real Time Vehicle Information System (FRVIS) and/or Florida Driver License Information System (FDLIS) Access Authorization per Florida DHSMV procedures.
- Ability to work a variety of schedules, including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, or disaster situations.
- Must demonstrate advanced proficiency and competency in completing assigned work independently.
- Customer contact (internal, external, or both) ranges from 0 – 90%, depending on assignment.
- May be required to work at different PCTCO locations or attend training outside regular work hours; reliable transportation is required.
