Mechanics Bank is searching for a full-time Customer Service Representative I to join our team at our Fontana Branch.

About the role

This position performs a variety of teller services, processes customer transactions, updates account information, and explores customer needs to cross-sell bank services. You will make referrals to other business units for non-banking products while providing superior customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Teller Activities
    • Handle deposits, withdrawals, holds, loan payments, stop payments, telephone transfers, direct deposits, cash advances, verifications of deposit, debit card requests, and related matters.
    • Maintain cash handling within prescribed limits; accurately count, receive, and disburse cash; handle mutilated and bait currency.
    • Balance cash drawer independently; maintain cash over/short records in compliance with bank policy.
  • New Accounts/Sales Activities
    • Familiarize yourself with all bank products and services; occasionally handle new account responsibilities.
    • Actively cross-sell bank products and services to new and existing customers, ensuring recommendations meet customer needs.
    • Make referrals to other business units for non-banking products.
    • Participate in sales programs to generate new customers.
    • Sell financial products and services to meet referral goals and performance evaluation targets.
  • Service Activities
    • Provide exceptional customer service using the STAR qualities (Seamless, Trustworthy, Attentive, Resourceful) in person or by telephone.
    • Actively listen to customers, communicate their value, and maintain a friendly, positive, and professional attitude.
    • Resolve difficult situations using the HEAL guidelines (Hearing out the customer, Easing tension, Acting to improve the situation, Leaving a positive impression).
    • Look for opportunities to exceed customer expectations.
    • Participate in two community events per year.
  • Operational Activities
    • Perform filing and maintain signature cards and certificate copies.
    • Assist with branch audit functions as requested.
    • Follow Mechanics Bank’s policies, procedures, and all regulatory requirements.
    • Perform all other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated success in cross-selling banking services preferred.
  • Strong math and computer skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Six months of cash handling, customer service, and sales experience preferred; prior banking experience a plus.
  • Strong customer relations skills and ability to work cooperatively with employees and customers.
  • Good judgment and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately, analyze information, and make decisions.

Skills

  • Operate teller and office equipment, including computers, adding machines, telephones, copy machines, fax machines, electronic credit card authorization terminals, and security devices.
  • Physical ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; frequent standing, occasional walking, sitting, bending, and reaching.

Pay

$20.00 - $25.00 hourly. Eligible for Retail Incentive Plan.
