Essential Job Duties
- Aids customers with their accounts.
- Maintains records of customer accounts.
- Balances cash and check receipts.
- Processes meter readings and forwards work orders to field staff.
- Processes monthly billing of customer accounts.
- Reports to the Utility Office Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
- Processes payments from customers, including processing, batching, and keying those received in the mail and the night drop.
- Processes financing payments for water/sewer assessments.
- Processes bank deposits and does the bank run.
- Runs delinquency and turn-off reports and processes notices.
- Processes turn-offs, return checks, and account refunds.
- Loads, unloads, and processes reports on meter boxes.
- Prints and dispatches work orders to field staff.
- Updates work orders on customer accounts.
- Reviews and edits accounts monthly.
- Processes, prints, and sorts bills for mailing.
- Manually processes temporary service including the monthly billing.
- Processes annexed accounts.
- Maintains the meter inventory.
- Processes, files, and maintains customer cards and work orders.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- A comprehensive knowledge of principles of cashiering and ability to make accurate arithmetical computations is required.
- Must be able to courteously interface with customers and deal with irate customers.
- Must be detailed and multi-task oriented.
- Should be able to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to learn assigned tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routines.
- Ability to read, speak, and write English.
Equipment
- Basic knowledge of standard office equipment, including skill in the operation of a computer, adding machine, and multi-line phone system.
Education
Employee must be skilled in keying information into a computer, with previous experience handling large sums of money and experience dealing with the public required. High school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required. Bilingual (Spanish speaking) preferred.
Physical Demands
- Acceptable hearing and vision with or without correction are required for this position.
- Must be able to view a computer screen, stand and/or sit for extended periods of time, as well as reach, bend, and stoop in order to access file cabinets for filing and retrieval of data.
- Employee may occasionally be required to lift up-to 30 lbs.
Environmental Conditions
Works indoors in an air-conditioned office environment.
