Customer Application Engineer – Industrial Trade & Converting
At tesa, we're collaborators who push boundaries to create sustainable adhesive solutions that improve work, products, and lives. We're passionate about making a difference in double-sided mounting tape solutions for our Industrial Trade & Converting business unit.
About the role
As an Application Solutions Engineer, you’ll be the technical “go-to” partner for sales, distribution partners, and converters. You’ll translate customer requirements into robust tape and process solutions for mounting/bonding, surface protection, lamination, splicing, and transport securing—from manual to automated processes. Based in our Customer Solution Center (CSC), you’ll provide hands-on technical consulting, application testing, and implementation support.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical consulting to customers and Sales for double-sided mounting applications (e.g., foam/film/transfer tapes, high/low surface energy substrates, durability, temperature/aging, clean appearance).
- Plan and execute application-focused testing, delivering clear, customer-ready recommendations (test plans, results, benchmarking, process window).
- Support customer trials and line implementations (manual and automated): define success criteria, run trials, document outcomes, and drive next steps to conversion and scale-up.
- Lead and support converting-related solutions (die-cuts, lamination builds, slitting, liner selection, dispensing/automation concepts) in collaboration with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Drive surface protection concepts and select/validate solutions for mechanically demanding processes and sensitive surfaces.
- Support lamination and splicing topics for industrial manufacturing and processing efficiency.
- Deliver trainings for sales/partners and contribute to application guidelines, best practices, and technical documentation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- BS/MS in Engineering or Science (e.g., Mechanical, Industrial, Materials, Chemical) or equivalent experience.
- 3–5 years in application engineering, technical service, or process engineering in industrial manufacturing, converting, or related adhesive/tape application roles.
- Willingness to travel up to ~20% within the USA and 2-3 times per year to Mexico.
- Valid driver’s license and passport.
- Strong hands-on and structured problem-solving skills (test planning, data interpretation, concise reporting, customer communication).
- Collaborative mindset across Sales, Product Development, Quality, and Operations.
