About the role
The Custom Training Specialist assists the Director of Workforce, Career and Experiential Learning and professional staff by providing planning, coordination, supervision, and organization of non-credit, continuing education programming tailored to meet the specific needs of businesses, employers, and industry trends. Responsibilities include setting up and delivering training programs.
Responsibilities
- Training project management, including hire and supervision of trainers, course development, planning, scheduling, and course evaluations.
- Oversight of custom training programs across various industries such as computer, leadership, healthcare and human services, manufacturing, service-related fields, and others as needed.
- Develop and maintain NY State and College reports showing results related to program outcomes.
- Develop methodologies to monitor and adapt to changing market conditions to enhance the College's success in workforce development.
- Collaborate with potential partners, both internal and external, to ensure efficient use of resources in meeting community workforce development and education needs.
- Create and implement specialized custom training programs as requested by businesses and industries.
- Promote, advertise, and manage course registration, participant evaluations, tracking, and state reporting.
- Create and administer training contracts with businesses, industries, and other employers, as well as workshops and conferences addressing professional development needs.
- Develop budgets for training programs, including hiring trainers and purchasing supplies and educational materials.
- Develop and maintain non-credit personal and professional development courses on campus and at off-campus locations.
- Collaborate with academic department chairs and faculty to develop non-credit programs and courses aligned with community needs.
- Conduct training sessions at appropriate times and locations for businesses, counties, and governmental agencies.
- Work with local Workforce Development offices to qualify participants for online and non-credit vocational training.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- A minimum of three years’ training management experience is required, with workforce development and/or training experience preferred.
- Experience working with the public, including businesses and state agencies dealing with workforce needs and funding, is also preferred.
- Proficient in various computer programs, including MS Office Suite.
- Ability to create marketing materials, identify target audiences, and promote courses is preferred.
- Excellent decision-making and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
- Detail-oriented with excellent follow-through skills.
- Knowledge of, respect for, and successful engagement with members of other cultures or backgrounds.
- Commitment to training, education, and accountability in promoting a culture of inclusion and belonging.

Benefits and Salary Range
- Competitive starting salary in the range of $48,847 to $51,289, commensurate with qualifications.
- A flexible work schedule is available upon successful completion of training.
- This position follows a hybrid model, with a combination of on-site and remote work.
