Custodian, Weekends/Events

About the role

The Custodian performs custodial labor in cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining College facilities. Essential functions include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dust mopping, dusting, floor care, and other related duties. Cleaning fixtures, windows, mirrors, and equipment; cleaning chalkboards and whiteboards; providing exterior cleaning; monitoring walkways and grounds; stripping, waxing, and buffing floors; using pressure washing equipment; cleaning and extracting carpets and upholstery; and performing custodial duties for special events.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties related to cleaning, sanitizing and general maintenance of classrooms, restrooms, and other College facilities in accordance with College standards.
• Cleans, polishes fixtures, windows, mirrors, and other areas and equipment.
• Cleans chalkboards and whiteboards.
• Provides exterior cleaning of windows, corridors, walkways, emptying outside trash, and sweeping.
• Maintains walkways and grounds to ensure they are free of trash, debris, clippings, etc.
• Strips, waxes, and buffs floors.
• Utilizes pressure washing equipment for cleaning as needed.
• Cleans and extracts carpets and upholstery.
• Arranges furniture and equipment according to event specifications.
• Sets up tables, chairs, staging, and other event elements as required.
• Removes and stores furniture and equipment after events.
• Assists with event-specific cleaning tasks, including spill and debris removal.
• Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
• Valid Florida driver’s license or obtain one within 30 days of hire, with acceptable driving record.
• Experience in institutional facility custodial duties.
• Knowledge, skills & abilities:
  • Knowledge of custodial methods and procedures.
  • Ability to operate and care for equipment necessary to accomplish the required duties.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in English.
  • Committed to working in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to operate tools, equipment, and vehicles utilized in custodial duties.
  • Exhibits a professional, courteous demeanor.

Qualifications

Pay

This role offers a beginning salary of $27,378 commensurate with education and experience, plus an attractive benefits package including flexible work options, generous paid time off, and a variety of paid health and life insurance coverages.

Work Schedule

This role primarily focuses on weekend operations with set hours on Saturdays and Sundays.

Conditions of Employment

• Finalists and individuals recommended for employment at Seminole State College must reside in the State of Florida at the time of hire.
• May be subject to background investigations and fingerprinting in compliance with Florida Statute 1001.64; and Seminole State College Policy 1.020; 2.020.
• Must be able to stand, walk, and bend for considerable periods of time.
• Must be able to lift and move up to 25 lbs. unassisted and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
