Custodian Substitutes

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas.
• Collect and dispose of waste and recyclables in accordance with school policies, ensuring proper separation of materials.
• Conduct minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs, fixing leaky faucets, and unclogging drains.
• Regularly inspect facilities for potential safety hazards and report any issues to maintenance or school administration.
• Assist in the setup and teardown of school events, including arranging furniture and equipment as needed.
• Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, requesting purchases when necessary.

Qualifications

• An education to include a high school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
• Courses in maintenance, basic repair, and safety can be beneficial.
• Prior experience in custodial or janitorial services is a plus, but many custodians start with minimal experience and receive on-the-job training.

Skills

• An attention to detail, time management, communication skills, physical stamina, and problem-solving abilities are essential for success in this role.

Working Conditions
