Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the Diocese by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Give evidence of living Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and being open to the importance of a personal faith journey; strive to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.
  • Develop a cleaning schedule to assure the Church or school is clean and maintained in an orderly fashion.
  • Perform general custodial duties to include cleaning and light maintenance of the parish or school facilities.
  • Assist grounds person on an “as needed” basis.
  • Perform scheduled monthly, semi-annual, or annual janitorial duties, i.e., floor waxing, painting, window washing, carpet cleaning, etc. as directed and in accordance with the parish and school maintenance schedules.
  • Provide set-up and cleaning of facilities for all activities as directed.
  • Maintain a supply of cleaning supplies and equipment; properly account for materials and equipment.
  • Maintain security of buildings, equipment, and tools.
  • Comply with safety regulations as required; maintain a safe working environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Requires coordination and manual dexterity;
  • Normal mental and visual ability;
  • Able to lift as required in a normal maintenance environment.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must have a working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese and Catholic Church;
  • Must be in full communion with the Catholic Church;
  • Excellent communications skills, verbal and written;
  • Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills;
  • Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, school parents, volunteers, parishioners and the public;
  • Must be a self-starter; well organized; perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of urgency;
  • Able to maintain confidentiality;
  • Able to work collaboratively in a team environment; punctuality is a must; ability to travel locally as required; weekend and overtime work may be required;
  • Working familiarity with computer technology.

Education and Experience

  • High school graduate or equivalent education;
  • 1 years’ experience in a commercial or private maintenance, janitorial or similar position.

Other/Preferred Skills

  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
