Custodian (Part-Time, Flexible Hours, Temporary)
Location: Mt. Gilead, OH | Part-time, temporary, as-needed position with no fixed end date.
About the Role
The Custodian will oversee the preparation of Flying Horse Farms’ medical facility, volunteer apartments, rental agreements, Camp Creator Days, and support the daily preparation of the main offices. This role ensures staff and guests are welcomed into a clean, sanitary environment and works with the Facilities Director to prepare for and run the Camp Creator Workday Program and rentals. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, a high standard of cleanliness, and flexibility to work nontraditional hours.
Team Overview
The Facilities team maintains the daily upkeep, construction, and sustainability of campgrounds and physical structures across 196 acres, including the main office, volunteer housing, 26 camp buildings, housing property, 8 program areas, 3 ponds, and 1 pool.
Responsibilities
- Clean, organize, and disinfect all common areas of camp, including restrooms, kitchenettes, and offices.
- Prepare for, participate in, and lead workday groups.
- Maintain organized laundry and chemical rooms.
- Perform medical-grade cleaning of the 1st floor of WellNest (Medical facility).
- Perform custodial work in guest apartments at camp WellNest, Program Building, and Big Red Barn.
- Stock, track, and request cleaning supplies for assigned areas and report needs to supervisor.
- Coordinate with the Facilities team to maintain building operations, including light construction, cleaning, and repairs.
- Provide on-site Facilities assistance for special non-camp events, including rentals.
- Prepare for and participate in painting projects at camp.
- Communicate with Camp Operations, Development, and General Administration teams.
- Assist with receipt and storage of delivered items.
- Dispose of trash and recyclables in all areas appropriately.
Requirements
- Ability to work non-conventional hours, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Experience with or willingness to learn medical-grade cleaning requirements.
- Ability to work independently and pass a criminal background check.
- Understanding and implementation of safety regulations and procedures.
- Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions (rain, snow, heat).
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to safety and environmental hazards.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring physical mobility and endurance (standing, walking, climbing for 60+ minutes).
- Ability to safely drive cars or golf carts to navigate the property.
