About the role

The Custodian II position is part of the Campus Facilities Management (CFM) team and performs routine, manual work utilizing knowledge of various custodial materials, equipment, methods, and procedures to maintain clean, neat, and orderly buildings. Duties may include cleaning, sweeping, trash removal, emergency support, maintenance of buildings and fixtures, and routine repair of fixed equipment. Work is subject to spot checks for neatness, cleanliness, and workmanship, with periodic reviews for overall effectiveness.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties in the care and cleaning of buildings (e.g., garages, offices, classrooms, entryways, and restrooms).
• Clean floors (e.g., sweep, mop, and wax), empty trash receptacles, dust furniture, clean windows, and perform other cleaning-related duties.
• Sweep and shovel snow as needed.
• Order cleaning supplies and equipment repairs as needed.
• Work in areas requiring special use of disinfectants, cleaning techniques, sanitation procedures, or special equipment (e.g., large sweepers, power washers).
• Prepare rooms for meetings by setting up chairs, tables, and necessary equipment.
• Fabricate simple fixtures or devices for building use or assist superiors in fabricating more complicated apparatus.
• Provide support for emergency responses and/or large moves/events.
• Perform building security duties such as locking/unlocking doors, checking windows, turning lights on/off, and reporting items needing repair.
• Report damages, repair needs, and graffiti to appropriate staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and write.
• Valid driver’s license may be required for certain positions.
• One year of general maintenance and/or custodial experience preferred.
• Knowledge of methods for cleaning equipment and buildings; mechanical ability for minor equipment repair.
• Physical ability to: visualize work areas, bend, squat, reach, stretch, walk, stand, sit, grasp, twist repeatedly, climb stairs/stools/ladders, lift and carry objects of moderate weight (25-50 lbs.).
• Ability to work in extreme temperatures, wear a backpack vacuum for extended periods, use protective masks and hearing protection, and work around dust and cleaning chemicals.
• Good physical coordination and mechanical aptitude sufficient to perform assigned duties.

Schedule

10:00 PM – 6:30 AM, Monday through Friday.

Pay

Anticipated hiring range: $16.00 – $17.00 per hour. Shift differential of $1.00 per hour for eligible shifts. Salary is determined by education, skills, experience, and organizational requirements.
