About the role

The Custodian/Maintenance is responsible for maintaining center buildings and grounds in top condition by developing work plans to accomplish maintenance and repair activities, assuring the availability of necessary tools, equipment and materials and minimal disruption to daily operation.

Responsibilities

  • Sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, cleaning, and disinfecting classrooms, restrooms, kitchen and other common areas.
  • Disposing of all garbage and disinfecting wastebaskets or garbage cans daily.
  • Maintaining equipment and facility cleanliness, ensuring all tools and machinery are in safe and working condition and performing floor and carpet care as needed.
  • Securing all doors and windows before closing the center and immediately reporting any unsafe equipment to the Center Manager.
  • Performing routine maintenance, repairs and upkeep on exterior buildings and outdoor areas to ensure a safe and well-maintained facility.
  • Constructing, erecting, and installing structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard using carpenter’s hand and power tools, to include but not limited to children’s outdoor play equipment and appropriate fall zones for each structure.
  • Familiarizing with the Hazardous Materials training Program and adhering to all safety protocols related to the use, handling, and storage of chemicals, cleaning supplies, and materials.
  • Maintaining awareness of safety guidelines and referring to the Safety Binder located on-site for detailed instructions and protocols regarding hazardous materials and overall workplace safety.
  • Preparing and maintaining inventories of janitorial supplies, regularly monitoring stock levels, and notifying the Center Manager of any items that need to be reordered.
  • Aiding the Head cook and/or cook with organizing and storing groceries and inventory.

  • Knowledge and abilities in building maintenance and custodial practices.
  • Experience in planning and preparation of workloads.
  • Experience in policy and procedures.
  • Experience in building and maintenance risk management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and procedures without constant supervision.
  • Understanding of the interrelationships between services and systems.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
  • Ability to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects.
  • Ability to move equipment and materials within and between units.
  • Knowledge of personal computers, including Microsoft Office.
  • Accurate data, documentation, and recordkeeping skills.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license.
  • Proof of automobile insurance.
  • Ability to travel to perform job duties and responsibilities.
  • Pass initial and periodic background check.
  • MMR immunization record or proof of immunity.
  • Pass initial and periodic employee health clearance.
  • Current Food Handler card.
  • Current First Aid / CPR cards.
  • Subject to initial and periodic TB screen.
  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV / AIDS) training.
  • Blood Borne Pathogen training.
  • Subject to drug and/or alcohol testing per IDC Drug and Alcohol policy.
  • Sign a Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Complete any/all required training related to the position.
