Custodian/Light Maintenance Worker (2 openings)

Summary: Shady Hill School is looking for 3 full time Custodian/Light Maintenance Workers. The Custodian/Light Maintenance Workers will be responsible for performing second shift custodial, maintenance, event preparation and safety/security functions for the purpose of ensuring an attractive, sanitary and safe environment for students, staff and visitors. During the school year, the scheduled hours for the positions are either Sunday – Thursday, 3:00pm – 11:00pm; or Tuesday – Saturday, 3:00pm – 11:00pm. During the summer, the scheduled hours must be flexible including changing to days with occasional nights. This position will report directly to the Night Custodial Supervisor. Primary Responsibilities Clean assigned facilities and grounds with a high level of skill using a variety of techniques including but not limited to:Drying and damp mopping floorsCleaning, dusting and disinfecting surfacesVacuuming and removing stains from carpets and other surfaces including carpet and upholstery shampoo and extractionEmptying and cleaning of trash receptacles, recycling and compost binsStripping and waxing tile and other flooringCleaning and disinfecting drains to prevent bug infestation and ensure a clean odorStore all supplies and equipment in a safe and organized mannerAssist the Night Supervisor with other tasks as neededEnsure prompt response to and execution of all work ordersComplete assigned work plans on time and on scheduleLock and alarm all buildings and conform with all campus safety protocolsShovel snow and dispense ice melt, including operating power equipment as neededSet up and take down furniture, refreshments or other items needed for campus eventsReplenish classroom, break room and restroom suppliesClean and maintain all machines and other equipment usedEnsure safety by utilizing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) which is provided by the SchoolAttend department and all staff meetings as required Adhere to all Shady Hill School policies, procedures and rulesOther duties as assignedMust occasionally be available outside of scheduled hours as needed (primarily during a snowstorm or for an event) Required Skills Flexibility with schedule and work assignmentsCompetence in the specific skills required to perform the duties listed above, including operating and maintaining equipment used in industrial cleaning and the use and maintenance of common toolsKnowledge of appropriate safety techniques to conduct work in a safe and responsible manner including handling any chemicals or potentially hazardous materials Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing work priorities and interruptionsAbility to work effectively with a wide variety of people and maintain professional relationships with other employees, parents, students and contractors Physical Requirements Lifting up to 100 pounds, carrying up to 50 poundsStanding for extended periods of timeWalking across campus under a variety of weather conditionsShoveling snowWalking up and down stairs several times per dayStooping, bending, reaching and kneelingAbility to work in both indoor and outdoor conditions and extremely hot and cold conditions Qualifications A minimum of 3 years prior custodial experienceAbility to read and communicate orally in EnglishAuthorized to work in the United StatesPossessing a valid driver’s licenseAbility to pass a criminal background check The pay range for this position is $24 – $26 per hour.
