Custodian / Janitor (DOH/TURQ#12502)

New Mexico Department of Health's Turquoise Lodge Hospital is a facility that provides substance abuse treatment services to New Mexico residents. We specialize in medical detoxification, social rehabilitation services, and Intensive Outpatient services. Our Housekeeping Section keeps Turquoise Lodge Hospital clean and provides our patient population a safe environment by following CDC recommended infection control cleaning practices.

About the role

Custodians will be leaders in keeping Turquoise Lodge Hospital clean and providing our patient population a safe environment by following CDC recommended infection control cleaning practices. Duties may include performing routine maintenance activities and notifying management of safety issues or observation of anything in need of repairs.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of cleaning duties including thorough routine cleaning and disinfection of patient, clinic, outdoor, and office areas
• Terminal cleaning and disinfection
• Strip and wax floors
• Carpet cleaning
• Wash walls and windows
• Replenish bathroom supplies and remove trash
• Perform routine janitorial services
• Clean various types of equipment
• Follow steps and precautions for handling hazardous waste
• Prepare requests to order supplies and equipment

Customers

Adults who present with substance misuse and co-occurring disorders and Turquoise Lodge Hospital's staff.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience:

• Performing routine janitorial services
• Cleaning various types of equipment
• Working with the steps and precautions for handling hazardous waste
• Preparing requests to order supplies and equipment

Hospital experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Requirements

• No prior experience or training required
• Employment is subject to pre-employment drug testing
• Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License
• Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive the certificate within 45 days of employment

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in an indoor setting and may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, or caustic chemicals
• Lifting, pushing, pulling, transferring, and/or carrying up to fifty (50) pounds
• Position may be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, overtime, and holidays

Pay

$15.45 - $23.18 hourly ($32,136 - $48,204 annually). This position is a Pay Band C1.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and all terms/conditions of that agreement apply.
