Custodian I - Geiger Elementary School

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs seasonal grounds work (snow, lawn).
• Cleans and preserves designated spaces, equipment etc in the building.
• Restocks disposable items and provides supervisor with inventory usage and data.
• Affords assistance to visitors utilizing the facilities with directions within building and in obtaining and setting up needed equipment.
• Maintains building and grounds security in the building.
• During summer months, moves furniture, strips, scrubs, and waxes floors, and returns furniture.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Prior experience in custodial work preferred.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
• Awareness of all district requirements and School Committee policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Regularly stands, walks, uses hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
• Frequently reaches with hands and arms, sits, bends, stoops, or twists at the neck and trunk more than the average person.
• Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 90 lbs, pushes/pulls items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines.
• Continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools.
• Works near or with moving mechanical equipment.
• Works with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays.
• Meets deadlines with severe time constraints.
• Works indoors and occasionally works outdoors.
