Custodian I
CU Boulder’s Housing Facilities Department (HFS) within the Division of Student Life is seeking a Custodian I to maintain cleanliness, functionality, and customer service in high-traffic campus facilities. This role interacts daily with students, faculty, staff, and guests.
About the Division
The Division of Student Life comprises 36 departments dedicated to student success. Housing Facilities Services (HFS) provides 24/7 support to over 10,000 residents and 20,000 conference guests annually, offering maintenance, repair, renovation, housekeeping, and grounds-keeping services. HFS employs approximately 200 full-time staff and 60 part-time/student workers.
Responsibilities
- Use backpack vacuums to clean all floor surfaces, stairwells, entryway mats, elevator door tracks, upholstery, erasers, and chalk trays in classrooms/conference rooms.
- Mop hard surface floors regularly and spot-clean spills.
- Empty waste and recycling receptacles, disposing of materials appropriately.
- Dust/wash windowsills, glass doors, furniture, elevator walls, and all unobstructed surfaces.
- Clean restrooms using squeegees, brushes, and high-pressure sprays.
- Restock supplies daily and perform minor maintenance on custodial equipment; report repairs to supervisor.
- Remove graffiti, spot-clean carpets, and remove gum from floors.
- Scrub and disinfect drinking fountains.
- Remove ice and snow from walks, steps, and entrances using shovels, scrapers, or salt.
- Perform emergency clean-up (water/debris) and assist with moving heavy furniture.
- Report maintenance issues (e.g., burned-out bulbs, running water, plugged drains) and updates to building floor plans.
- Assist with stripping and finishing hard surface floors.
- Participate in the “Eyes and Ears Program” and "Emergency Response Teams" as needed.
Requirements
- Six (6) months of work experience (equivalent education/experience may substitute).
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and customers.
- Ability to lift, move, and operate cleaning tools/equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior custodial work experience.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM.
Pay
Annual salary: $39,852.

This position is designated “essential/critical services.” The incumbent must respond to campus emergencies (e.g., snow, floods) and report to work during closures.
