Custodian - Facilities Management and Development

About the Role

The custodian position provides general cleaning, custodial care, and operational support for assigned campus buildings, facilities, structures, residential communities, and adjacent areas under the direct supervision of the Custodial Manager. Assigned areas may include, but are not limited to, campus offices, classrooms, science laboratories, art rooms, auditoriums, gymnasiums, locker rooms, health and childcare centers, student residences, apartments, patios, entryways, walkways, and workshops. This role supports the university’s mission by maintaining a safe, clean, sustainable, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The position may work independently or as part of a custodial team.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain assigned areas, including dusting and cleaning all surfaces, removing trash and recyclables.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms and replenish supplies; clean glass doors, windows, and blinds; remove graffiti; clean furniture and upholstery; clean light fixtures; polish woodwork and metal surfaces; clean stairwells, walkways, and elevators; and perform general housekeeping.
• Power wash designated areas as needed.
• Clean and maintain hard surface and carpeted campus floors, including sweeping; dry and/or wet mopping; stripping, sealing, waxing, and polishing; vacuuming and spot/full cleaning of carpets; and use and care for powered floor cleaning equipment.
• Provide custodial support, including responding to custodial/clean emergencies.

Requirements

Any combination of training, experience, and/or education sufficient to demonstrate the following skills:

• Cleaning and maintaining assigned areas.
• Operating custodial equipment and tools.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one by the date of hire.

Pay

Anticipated Hiring Range: $44,964 - $52,680 per year
Classification Range: $44,160 - $59,412 per year
