Custodian, Evening Shift

About the Role

The University of Virginia Facilities Management Department is seeking Custodian candidates for a full-time, overtime-eligible position with UVA benefits. This role offers exciting growth opportunities and is scheduled for Monday - Friday, 5:00 pm - 1:30 am. The position compensation starts at $15.00 per hour, with an additional $2.00/hour for evening shift differential, depending on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain offices, classrooms, restrooms, public areas, or other assigned areas in clean and orderly condition.
• Remove trash, clean bathrooms, wipe down surfaces, dust, vacuum, etc.
• Apply proper cleaning methods and materials, including mixing cleaning solutions.
• Maintain clean and orderly housekeeping closets and equipment, and keep inventories of supplies.
• Report repairs, pest control needs, and housekeeping-related violations.
• Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs, and operate cleaning equipment like buffers or waxers.
• Complete special project work as assigned and gain increasing efficiency with cleaning techniques, supplies, and equipment.

Requirements

• Some experience with basic housekeeping duties, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning carpets, cleaning bathrooms, and trash removal, is preferred.
• Ability to follow established policies, procedures, and directions, as well as adhere to regulatory guidelines.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and possess written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Basic computer, tablet, and/or smartphone usage, including the ability to submit electronic timesheets.
• Pass a background check before the start date.

Physical Demands

This job requires a range of continual movements, including traveling, kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, twisting, and lifting. The use of both hands and repetitive motions is necessary for duties such as dusting and mopping.
