Custodian - Elementary School

About the role

Responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and security of the school facility to support its uninterrupted and comfortable operation.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled housekeeping such as sweeping, dusting, trash disposal, restroom sanitation, and cleaning glass.
• Handle additional tasks like snow removal, grounds maintenance, building security, flag raising/lowering, and maintaining supplies inventory.
• Operate mechanical and electrical systems, make minor repairs, and report damage or maintenance needs.
• Assist with setup for school events and public facility rentals.
• Maintain a safe environment by following safety practices and cooperating with inspections.
• Establish cooperative relationships with staff, students, and the public.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED; 1-3 months related experience or equivalent.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
• Basic math skills and ability to follow instructions.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand, walk, and perform manual tasks.
• Comfortable working in environments with mechanical parts, noise, and outdoor conditions.

Work Environment

• Regularly exposed to moving machinery, high places, fumes, weather, and vibration.
• Must demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, self-direction, organization, and confidentiality.
• Screening tests and background checks are required.
• Performance is evaluated per district policies.
