Custodian - Elementary

About the Role

Chandler Unified School District, recognized as the Best School District in AZ by Niche.com and AZ Big Media's Ranking Arizona in 2026, is seeking a dedicated Custodian to maintain a safe, clean, and attractive physical plant. This full-time position plays a vital role in ensuring a positive and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, dust, vacuum, scrub, wax, and polish floors and surfaces
• Wash windows, walls, woodwork, and equipment
• Clean assigned areas to prescribed standards and requirements
li>Empty trash receptacles
• Perform minor repairs
• Move furniture and equipment based on facility needs
• Replace light bulbs and perform minor maintenance
• Inspect all fire equipment on campus and maintain inspection records
• Report safety/security hazards and major repair needs
• Secure the facility, ensuring proper locking/unlocking
• Handle emergency custodial duties for staff
• Follow district policies and procedures

Qualifications

• Ability to read and write English as it pertains to job functions
• Previous custodial experience preferred
• Satisfactory criminal background check

Physical Requirements

This position involves heavy work, including:

• Stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, and sitting
• Finger or manual dexterity and repetitive finger motion
• Speaking, hearing, and seeing (with correction)
• Pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds and lifting up to 50 pounds (items over 50 pounds require assistance)
• Climbing ladders (rarely)
• Exposure to fumes, odors, chemicals, blood-borne pathogens, and varying temperatures

Schedule

2:00 PM - 10:30 PM, 248 work days (12-month calendar) with 13 paid holidays for full-time employees.

Pay

Minimum entry base pay: $19.01 per hour. Performance pay available annually, with additional compensation for experience and education:

• 1% for two or more years of full-time experience (up to 5% maximum)
• 1% for a college degree in a similar field (combined with experience, up to 5% maximum)
