Pay

Hourly rate: $15.45 – $23.18 (approximately $32,136 – $48,204 annually). Position is classified as Pay Band C1.

About the role

Custodians perform a variety of heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing trash. They may also fix leaky faucets, empty trash cans, do painting and carpentry, replenish bathroom supplies, mow lawns, and ensure heating and air‑conditioning equipment works properly. Janitors may wet‑ or dry‑mop floors, clean bathrooms, vacuum carpets, and dust furniture.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine janitorial services, including wet‑ or dry‑mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal.
• Clean floors, shampoo rugs, wash walls and glass surfaces.
• Maintain bathroom cleanliness and replenish supplies.
• Perform minor repairs such as fixing leaky faucets, painting, carpentry, and equipment maintenance.
• Operate and perform routine repairs on equipment; check locks on buildings and windows to maintain security.
• Prepare requests to order supplies and equipment.
• Mow lawns and ensure heating and air‑conditioning systems function properly.

Requirements

• Experience in housekeeping, environmental services, or custodial work (no prior experience or training required).
• Knowledge of proper cleaning, sanitation, and infection control practices.
• Ability to work independently and follow established cleaning procedures.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to work assigned schedules.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Pre‑employment background investigation required and conditional upon results.

Working Conditions

The position is located in an adolescent treatment center serving males ages 13‑17 with a history of violence and aggression. Employees may be exposed to mentally and/or behaviorally challenged residents who may exhibit unpredictable behaviors. Work may also be performed in an office setting using visual video display terminals, computers, and phones. Physical demands include pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying.
