Responsibilities
- Follow and perform routine cleaning schedules and maintenance procedures to ensure a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.
- Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as district policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Clean and sanitize floors, carpets, instructional boards, wastebaskets, windows, window sills, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
- Move furniture or equipment within the building; assist with lunchroom setup and facilities setup for special events.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks, including painting, grease trap cleaning, mounting classroom instructional boards, and projection equipment.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness of the boiler room; report malfunctions to supervisor.
- Identify and correct unsafe conditions; report major repair needs to supervisor.
- Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment; request additional supplies as needed.
- Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
- Assist with cleaning and refinishing floors, moving furniture, books, and inventory, and setting up facilities for school events.
- Follow established procedures for opening, securing, monitoring, and safeguarding facilities.
- Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash and chemicals.
- Assemble, disassemble, repair, and refurbish furniture as needed.
- Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals.
- Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) preferred.
- Ability to effectively communicate with all district employees.
- Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures.
- Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building maintenance.
- Ability to safely operate cleaning/maintenance equipment and lift heavy equipment.
- Valid Texas or New Mexico driver’s license to be insurable by the district’s auto liability insurance carrier.
- Subject to the district’s drug and alcohol testing policy and regulations.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds frequently, 20-50 pounds occasionally, and more than 50 pounds infrequently (with assistance).
- Ability to climb ladders up to 8 feet unassisted and higher with assistance.
- Work under all weather conditions.
- Extended periods of walking, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping, and lifting.
- Ability to work with potentially hazardous materials in a safe manner and perform duties in potentially hazardous environments.
- Must be adaptable to work a shift schedule and/or hours other than regularly assigned; must be able to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job.
