Custodian

About the role

The Facility Associate supports the work of the YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW), a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Understand and perform custodial functions as directed by the Facility Director.
• Maintain cleanliness of the building at all times.
• Cleaning, sanitizing, mopping, trash removal, dusting, window cleaning, and grounds keeping.
• Maintain grounds in a safe manner and pleasing appearance according to the season.
• Maintain a safe environment for members and staff while performing work duties.
• Assist with room set up and breakdown, and snow removal as needed.
• Evaluate and report any health, safety or cleanliness issues to the supervisor.
• Maintain an adequate inventory of custodial and maintenance supplies.
• Follow all Association and applicable safety standards when performing any tasks.
• Affix and/or maintain all buildings and fire suppression inspections.
• Ensures compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of 1 years' experience in maintenance or custodial field.
• Demonstrate knowledge of basic custodial equipment and functions.
• Ability to relate well with staff and public.
• Obtain and/or maintain a valid driver's license.
• Be willing to alter work schedule to deal with job demands and manage competing priorities.
• Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Must be fluent in spoken and written English.

Work Conditions and Physical Demands

• Frequent standing, sitting, walking, communicating, and hearing.
• Occasional lifting and moving up to 25 pounds.
• Close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
• Alertness with no lapses of consciousness.
