About the role
The Custodian performs a variety of general cleaning and maintenance duties to keep all Lincoln County facilities healthy, safe, and clean.
Responsibilities
- Perform floor care: sweep, vacuum, mop, strip, scrub, wax, and polish floors.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms: toilets, sinks, walls, mirrors, doors, floors, counters.
- Empty garbage and replenish supplies; dispose of trash and recyclables in dumpsters.
- Grounds maintenance: mow and trim lawns and shrubs; pick up debris and trash on courthouse grounds; perform snow removal from sidewalks, steps, and entrances in inclement weather.
- Clean and dust glass, windows, tabletops, desks, blinds, vents, walls, woodwork, fixtures, furniture, cabinets, and hardware.
- Move and arrange chairs, tables, cabinets, and office equipment.
- Ensure entrances and doors are secured and locked.
- Change light bulbs and deliver supplies.
- Attend classes and seminars regarding safety and new techniques for building maintenance.
- Assign work schedules to custodial staff.
- Perform inspections of county facilities for proper cleanliness and safety.
- Take daily direction from Lead Custodian regarding duties performed.
Requirements
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Must pass a pre‑employment criminal background check.
- Must pass a physical examination.
Qualifications
- Previous custodial experience and high school diploma or GED (preferred).
- Knowledge of floor and office cleaning products and equipment.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
Skills
- Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques, equipment, and supplies.
- Ability to perform moderately strenuous manual labor for extended periods of time.
- Capability to work independently.
- Ability to learn the operation of small, mechanized equipment and handheld power tools.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
- Ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor.
