Custodian

About the role

The Custodian will plan and coordinate daily work assignments and collaborate with other maintenance and facilities staff. Performs general custodial, janitorial, and cleaning work in all campus-owned buildings and facilities, using equipment and supplies as instructed while maintaining equipment in proper condition.

Responsibilities

• Perform general custodial, janitorial, and cleaning tasks across campus facilities.
• Operate and maintain janitorial equipment, including vacuums, floor scrubbers, shampooers, and buffers.
• Work independently and cooperatively in a team setting.
• Interact professionally and effectively with staff and offices across campus.

Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of general custodial/janitorial work.
• Experience operating a variety of janitorial equipment.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Exceptional self-motivation and efficiency.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid US Driver’s License.

Qualifications (Preferred)

• One to two years of full-time custodial experience.
• Experience in multi-facility environments.
• Prior safety training or certification (e.g., First Aid, CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens, MSDS).

Physical Demands

• Frequent use of arms, hands, and fingers to operate and manipulate equipment.
• Regular mobility, communication, and hearing requirements.
• Occasional exposure to outdoor environmental conditions (heat, cold, precipitation).
• Ability to walk, stoop, climb, push, pull, bend, and work in awkward positions.
• Frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 65 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Occasional stress while performing job duties.

Work Environment

• Frequent exposure to varied environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures and weather.
• Potential exposure to dangerous machinery, fumes, insulation, dust particles, asbestos, and electrical shock.
• Exposure to cleaning materials and chemicals.
• Noise levels ranging from moderately quiet to frequently loud.

Schedule

Includes weekend shifts.
