Custodian

Position Summary

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, appearance, and safety of assigned areas within Hamilton College facilities. This is a weekend wrap position (Saturday & Sunday required with a possibility of Monday/Tuesday off or Thursday/Friday off), working 40 hours per week from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness and safety of assigned area(s) through tasks such as dusting, sweeping, waxing, vacuuming, polishing, washing windows, washing walls and woodwork, washing furniture, bathrooms, shampooing carpets.
• Gather and remove trash, debris, and recyclables.
• Empty and clean refuse containers.
• Maintain, store, and track inventory of cleaning supplies.
• Operate various cleaning machinery safely and efficiently, including vacuum cleaners, buffing machines, scrubbers, water pick-ups, upholstery cleaners, carpet shampooers, extractors, tenant floor machines.
• Perform additional tasks such as clearing ice/snow, changing light bulbs, setting up/folding furniture, reporting building issues, etc.
• Support summer programs with housekeeping duties at the Bristol Campus Center and Roger's Estate.
• Set up and break down campus catered functions and special events, including in-house stage flats, podiums, tables, chairs, partitions, coat racks.

Education and Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. One year of cleaning/custodial experience is preferred, but equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of standard custodial methods and ability to learn and demonstrate these methods.
• Knowledge of proper use of chemicals and PPE according to state and federal regulations.
• Ability to handle and dispose of hazardous materials and waste.
• Adaptability to changing work priorities, independent work, and teamwork.
• Problem-solving and time management skills.
• Ability to work overtime as required.

Compensation

$24.81 per hour.
