CUSTODIAN

About the role

This is the first of three levels in the Custodial Services series. Incumbents are responsible for the cleanliness and appearance of assigned facilities. Responsibilities may include sweeping; mopping; vacuuming; emptying trash; dusting, sanitizing bathrooms and/or kitchens; monitoring supply inventories; and setting up for events.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of general custodial and/or sanitizing duties including cleaning restrooms, kitchens, and grounds; dusting; mopping, sweeping, and vacuuming floors; replenishing toilet paper, towels, and soap; delivering supplies and materials; washing walls, windows, doors, and handles; and/or performing other related activities.
• Performs manual labor activities, which includes gathering materials and equipment, placing materials in proper locations, moving furniture and equipment, climbing and working on ladders, and/or performing other related activities.
• Operates and maintains a variety of cleaning, maintenance, and/or operational equipment and tools.
• Collections and disposes of trash from grounds and buildings.
• Maintains inventory levels and notifies appropriate individuals when stock levels reach specified levels.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.); or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
• Licenses: Valid Driver's License as per State law or requirement.

Qualifications

• To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
• Knowledge: Basic cleaning techniques; Tools, equipment, and materials relevant to area of assignment; Chemicals and chemical mixtures; Applicable equipment and tools; Applicable chemicals and their usage; Inventory monitoring principles; Safe work practices.
• Skills: Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, buildings, and other facilities; Using vacuums and/or other applicable custodial equipment; Proper handling of chemicals; Using applicable tools and equipment; Monitoring inventory; Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not require supervisory responsibilities.

Uniform

An employee in this position will be supplied with a uniform, provided by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. The employee is responsible for abiding by the Police Jury's Uniform Agreement.
