Custodian - Afternoon Shift

About the role

The Custodian position at South University is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and performing minor maintenance tasks in campus buildings. Responsibilities

• Unlock and secure campus buildings by checking for maintenance issues and cleaning assigned areas.
• Clean restrooms, hallways, and floors according to established procedures.
• Maintain and stock janitorial closets as needed.
• Respond to special requests from other departments and follow facility management directives.
• Perform minor repairs and maintenance, such as checking fire extinguishers and activating security alarms.
• Assist in event setup and clean-up as needed.
• Handle special requests for assistance from students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 6 months of experience in the housekeeping industry.
• 2 years of experience preferred in a post-secondary institution setting.
• Understanding of cleaning and maintenance methods and equipment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a wide range of populations.
• Organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
• Physical stamina to lift up to 50 pounds and stand/walk for long periods.
• Ability to work in environments with exposure to dust, chemicals, and potential hazards.
