Custodian ($750 Hiring Incentive)

About the Role

Clean and maintain a wide variety of City buildings and facilities, performing a range of custodial tasks such as trash removal, sweeping, mopping, and dusting. Assist with setup and breakdown of rooms, sites, and special events, and handle various duties related to the assigned area.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain City buildings and other assigned facilities.
• Sweep, strip, mop, and refinish floors using buffers, scrubbers, hand tools, and chemical cleaning agents.
• Wash and dust walls, doors, windows, and window shades.
• Assist with setup and breakdown of rooms, sites, and special events.
• Collect and empty trash cans, waste baskets, and ash receptacles; remove trash from offices and public areas.
• Sweep and remove trash from outside gate areas and porches; pull weeds on facility grounds.
• Replace burned-out light bulbs.
• Clean restrooms, including scouring and disinfecting porcelain fixtures; replenish tissue, towels, and soap.
• During inclement weather, remove snow from walkways and entrance areas; spread ice-melting compounds as needed.
• Trim hedges, trees, and shrubs; cut and water grass areas.
• Respond to public inquiries courteously, provide information, and resolve complaints efficiently.
• Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
• Detail city vehicles as required.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Some custodial experience preferred.

Additional Requirements (Aviation Assignments)

• Must qualify for and maintain a Sunport Access Control Card as determined by the Aviation Department and TSA policies.
• Successful completion of a security background check conducted by U.S. Customs & Border Protection, if applicable.

Working Conditions

• Primarily indoor environment; may work at heights.
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals, solvents, lubricants, noise, dust, and toxic fumes.

Physical Demands

• Must maintain physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, standing, and walking for prolonged periods.
• Moderate to heavy lifting may be required.
