Custodian, 5pm-1:30am M-F

About the Role

The University of Virginia Facilities Management Department is seeking Custodial candidates for a 5:00pm - 1:30am, M-F shift in the Central Grounds zone. This role offers growth opportunities within Facilities Management and involves performing exceptional housekeeping services in assigned areas through safe work practices and proper techniques.

Responsibilities

• Maintain offices, classrooms, restrooms, public areas, or other assigned academic areas in clean and orderly conditions.
• Operate cleaning equipment such as auto scrubbers, buffers, and burnishers.
• Remove trash, clean bathrooms, wipe down surfaces, dust, vacuum, and mop.
• Apply proper cleaning methods and materials, including mixing cleaning solutions.
• Maintain clean and orderly housekeeping closets and equipment, and keep inventories of supplies.
• Report repairs, pest control needs, and housekeeping-related violations.
• Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as changing lightbulbs.

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include some experience with basic housekeeping duties such as dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning carpets, cleaning bathrooms, and trash removal in a workplace setting.

Skills

• Ability to follow established policies, procedures, and directions, as well as adhere to regulatory guidelines.
• Effective teamwork and communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal).
• Basic computer, tablet, and/or smart phone usage, including submitting electronic timesheets.

Physical Demands

This role requires regular standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, lifting, and carrying, with the ability to safely handle material and equipment weighing 25 pounds, and occasionally as much as 50 pounds. It also involves repetitive motion for recurring duties and working in various indoor and outdoor environments.

Pay

The estimated salary range is $15.00-$18.00/hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position also receives an additional $2.00/hour for evening shift differential.
