Provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent training and experience.
  • Proficiency in general repair, painting, cleaning, and operating cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to communicate courteously and maintain a neat appearance.
  • Ability to carry out assigned duties.
  • Alternate qualifications may be considered by the Board of Education.

Responsibilities

  • Keep building and premises, including sidewalks and play areas, neat and clean at all times.
  • Notify head custodian, maintenance supervisor, or principal of emergencies; turn off heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems if necessary.
  • Comply with all Federal, state, and local laws and regulations for maintenance, repair, and operation of equipment and machines (OSHA).
  • Shovel and salt walks, driveways, and steps as needed.
  • Check daily to ensure all exit doors are open and panic bolts are working during building occupancy.
  • Clean assigned classrooms daily and dust furniture as time permits.
  • Maintain all floors and corridors in a clean, attractive condition and good state of preservation.
  • Scrub, mop, and disinfect toilet and lunchroom floors daily; clean sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
  • Wash all windows inside and outside as frequently as necessary, weather permitting.
  • Assist in keeping grounds free from rubbish.
  • Empty all trash cans daily.
  • Clean all chalkboards at least once a week.
  • Perform minor building repairs as capable; report major repairs needed promptly.
  • Report any damage to school property immediately to the head custodian.
  • Remain on school premises during scheduled hours, excluding lunch, and during authorized non-school hours when required.
  • Open and close the building each school day; ensure all doors and windows are secured and lights are off before leaving.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel as requested.
  • Move furniture and/or equipment as required for various activities.
  • Comply with all laws and regulations for storage, use, and disposal of trash, rubbish, waste, and hazardous material (OSHA).
  • Report any student or public misconduct in the building or on the grounds to the building principal.
  • Report any safety hazards pertaining to playground equipment, steps, halls, and other parts of the building and grounds.
  • Ensure the safety of students.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships.
  • Remain free of alcohol, nonprescription controlled substances, and abuse of prescribed controlled substances in the workplace.
  • Exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment.
  • Serve as a role model for students in ethical and responsible conduct.
  • Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

Schedule

2nd shift: 2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., 260 days per year (250 work days and 10 paid holidays), 8 hours per day excluding lunch.

Pay

$20.68/hr – $24.51/hr.
