Responsibilities
- Sweeps, mops and waxes floors;
- Vacuums carpets;
- Washes windows, blackboards, and lavatory fixtures;
- Dusts woodwork, furniture, and other articles;
- Replenishes lavatory supplies;
- Empties wastebaskets and collects and disposes of refuse;
- Moves and arranges chairs, tables, and other furniture or equipment;
- Assists with heavy work in kitchen and cafeteria;
- Checks windows and doors to see that they are properly closed and locked;
- Makes minor repairs to furniture, electrical fixtures, windows and shades, locks, faucets, heating system, and other equipment;
- Undertakes routine maintenance tasks related to building operating systems, such as changing filters, light bulbs, etc;
- Performs grounds keeping activities such as cleaning snow, mowing lawns, raking leaves, trimming shrubs, and general maintenance such as clearing litter and debris;
- Performs a variety of errands and related custodial tasks;
- Sets thermostat, as assigned;
- Makes other assigned custodial tasks as directed.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of building and cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment;
- Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of heating systems;
- Ability to make minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical repairs, and perform a variety of routine maintenance tasks;
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions;
- Willingness to perform custodial and other manual tasks;
- Ability to read and write English;
- Dependable and thorough;
- Physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.
Prerequisites
- High School diploma or equivalency.
Employment Terms
- Hrs: 2:30 PM - 11:30 PM - hours may vary depending on school/district needs;
- Salary Range: $48,071 - $71,273 in accordance with the corresponding CSEA salary scale - step placement is contingent upon prior experience;

- Fingerprint Clearance: SAVE Law: Effective July 1, 2001, Education Law 305(30), 3004-b, 3004-c and 3035, as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part 87 of the Commissioner's Regulations require the Commissioner of Education to request a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check for applicants for certification as well as for prospective employees of school districts, charter schools and boards of cooperative educational services (BOCES).
