Custodial Worker 1 - Wernersville State Hospital

About the role

Become a Custodial Worker 1 with the Wernersville State Hospital, Department of Human Services. In this role you will help keep living areas, offices, and other spaces clean and safe for everyone on campus while working with a supportive team that values responsibility, teamwork, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Daily Cleaning: clean living units, offices, hallways, and other areas across the hospital campus.
• Linen Duties: deliver, sort, and prepare linens and clothing for use throughout the facility.
• Equipment Use: operate custodial equipment safely and report needed repairs.
• Emergency Response: handle urgent cleaning needs such as spills, flooding, or isolation procedures.
• Outdoor Tasks: assist with snow shoveling, walkway cleaning, and maintaining building entrances.
• Basic Maintenance: replace light bulbs and assist with moving furniture and larger items when needed.

Requirements

• Must be able to perform essential job functions.
• Conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
• Submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports (PA State Police and FBI clearance) as required by the Older Adult Protective Services Act.

Schedule

• Full‑time employment, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday with a 30‑minute lunch.
• Work schedule may change based on operational needs.
• Rotating weekends and holidays as assigned.
• Overtime and travel as needed.
• Free parking available.
