Custodial Worker 1 - 2nd Shift
About the role
As a Custodial Worker 1 with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), you will make a meaningful difference in the daily experience of residents at the Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home. Responsibilities
- Deep Cleaning: Perform cleaning of resident rooms, offices, common areas, and specialized spaces
- General Cleaning: Complete tasks such as mopping, dusting, sweeping, polishing, and buffing surfaces
- Restroom Care: Clean and sanitize all restrooms and restock essential supplies
- Waste Removal: Empty waste containers and dispose of trash and recyclables appropriately
- Room Preparation: Organize and sanitize resident rooms before occupation and after transitions
- Safety Support: Maintain safe work areas and report hazards to supervisor
Schedule
Full-time employment, 7.5 hours per day, 75 hours bi-weekly. Work hours are 2nd shift (3:00 PM to 11:00 PM), with a 30-minute lunch. You will work rotating days and weekends.
Qualifications
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Work experience as a custodian, janitor, or cleaning person (Experience might include such things as cleaning restrooms; cleaning resident rooms, offices, or public areas; mopping, scrubbing, dusting, sweeping, and buffing)
- Work experience in an assisted living facility, nursing home, or hospital
- Work experience interacting with patients or residents while cleaning in patient or resident rooms or a dining room setting
- Work experience cleaning bodily fluids and disposing infectious waste into proper storage areas
- Work experience removing snow, trash, and debris from sidewalks and entrance ways
- Work experience using and mixing chemicals or solvents
- Work experience using manual or power equipment to mop, scrub, sweep, strip, wax, and buff floors
- Custodial work experience in one of the following environments: activity or recreation room, bathroom, shower, or bathing room, cafeteria or dining room, entranceway, lobby or common space, nursing station, patient or resident rooms, pharmacy, or physical therapy rooms
Legal Requirements
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
- Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
