About the role

This is routine work in exercising supervision over and participating in the work of custodial personnel engaged in the performance of buildings and grounds custodial work.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, assigns, schedules, supervises, and evaluates the work of assigned subordinate custodial personnel;
  • Instructs personnel in safety methods, cleaning techniques, and proper use of equipment;
  • Inspects buildings to insure maintenance or proper standards of cleanliness and neatness, and to detect needs for further custodial work;
  • Establishes schedules and methods for providing custodial services; identifies resource needs; reviews needs with appropriate management staff; allocates resources accordingly;
  • Makes sure contractors perform satisfactorily and maintains an inventory of custodial supplies; prepares requisitions for supplies and equipment;
  • Selects custodial staff; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements discipline procedures.

Requirements

  • Sufficient education to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in general custodial work and related work;
  • A valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.

Skills

  • Knowledge of operation methods, supplies and equipment used in cleaning and maintaining office and building areas;
  • Safe working practices and techniques;
  • The principles and techniques of supervision, training and performance evaluation;
  • OSHA standards;
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations;
  • Organizing, supervising and evaluating the work of lower level staff;
  • Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.
