NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK

Work involves responsibility for a variety of cleaning tasks performed in and around public buildings. Work includes supervising work performed by a small-sized group of subordinate custodial employees. Supervision is received from a superior who checks work periodically for adherence to established schedules and conformance with instructions.

Examples Of Duties And Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Plans, assigns, schedules, supervises, and evaluates the work of assigned subordinate custodial personnel;
  • Instructs personnel in safety methods, cleaning techniques, and proper use of equipment;
  • Inspects buildings to insure maintenance or proper standards of cleanliness and neatness, and to detect needs for further custodial work;
  • Establish schedules and methods for providing custodial services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly;
  • Makes recommendations for the purchase of custodial supplies; prepares requisitions for supplies and equipment;
  • Participates in the selection of custodial staff; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements discipline procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of operation methods, supplies and equipment used in cleaning and maintaining office and building areas;
  • Safe working practices and techniques;
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and techniques of supervision, training and performance evaluation;
  • Considerable knowledge of OSHA standards;
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations;
  • Ability to organize, supervise and evaluate the work of lower level staff;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Sufficient education to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in general custodial work and related work;
  • A valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.

Supplemental Qualifications

  • Proficiency with computers, including Google Suite.
