NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK
Work involves responsibility for a variety of cleaning tasks performed in and around public buildings. Work includes supervising work performed by a small-sized group of subordinate custodial employees. Supervision is received from a superior who checks work periodically for adherence to established schedules and conformance with instructions.
Examples Of Duties And Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Plans, assigns, schedules, supervises, and evaluates the work of assigned subordinate custodial personnel;
- Instructs personnel in safety methods, cleaning techniques, and proper use of equipment;
- Inspects buildings to insure maintenance or proper standards of cleanliness and neatness, and to detect needs for further custodial work;
- Establish schedules and methods for providing custodial services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly;
- Makes recommendations for the purchase of custodial supplies; prepares requisitions for supplies and equipment;
- Participates in the selection of custodial staff; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements discipline procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of operation methods, supplies and equipment used in cleaning and maintaining office and building areas;
- Safe working practices and techniques;
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and techniques of supervision, training and performance evaluation;
- Considerable knowledge of OSHA standards;
- Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations;
- Ability to organize, supervise and evaluate the work of lower level staff;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications
- Sufficient education to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
- Two (2) or more years of experience in general custodial work and related work;
- A valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.
Supplemental Qualifications
- Proficiency with computers, including Google Suite.
