About the role
Under direct supervision, performs various cleaning functions in accordance with standard techniques and procedures to maintain a clean, sanitary environment across campus facilities.
Responsibilities
- Performs all general cleaning duties in assigned areas (50%):
- Cleans entrance ways, restrooms, lobbies, lounges, dining areas, classrooms, labs, conference/meeting rooms, office areas, and stairwells.
- Removes trash (recycling and waste), dust mops, sweeps, and wet mops floors.
- Vacuums and spot cleans carpets; cleans glass, whiteboards, and chalkboards.
- Replenishes chalk, markers, erasers; spot cleans walls, fixtures, and ledges; dusts and damp wipes surfaces.
- Performs daily cleaning and sanitizing of restrooms (20%):
- Removes trash, cleans toilets, urinals, sinks, fixtures, exposed plumbing pipes, door handles, kick plates, walls, partitions, and mirrors.
- Replenishes bathroom supplies.
- Performs custodial duties to the immediate exterior of assigned building entrances (7%).
- Uses chemicals and equipment consistent with established safety standards and practices (10%).
- Maintains custodial closet, chemicals, and equipment; reports need for repairs (7%).
- Plunges obstructed toilets; reports inability to clear obstructions (3%).
- Moves and replaces furniture as needed (3%).
Requirements
- Ability to read, understand, and follow work-related instructions, including safety procedures and chemical mixing directions.
- Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and interact with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
- May require a pre-employment physical examination and annual physical exams thereafter.
- May require an annual respirator fit test and physical examination if respirator use is necessary.
- Ability to perform duties involving walking, stooping, climbing, pushing, pulling, heavy lifting (up to 65 pounds), high climbing, bending, and working in awkward positions.
- Must wear protective clothing and/or respiratory equipment when conditions warrant.
- May be designated as “Essential” and required to provide contact information for emergencies during non-duty hours.
Schedule
3rd shift: Monday–Thursday, 9:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
May require overtime, shift work, weekend, and holiday work.
