Custodial Helper
About the role
Join Utah Valley University and play an important role in creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, employees, and visitors. In this position, you will perform a variety of custodial services, including floor care, carpet maintenance, restroom cleaning and restocking, and general facility upkeep. You'll be part of a team that takes pride in maintaining high standards across campus while following established safety procedures for handling cleaning products and responding to situations involving bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids. This position offers a consistent part-time evening schedule that can work well for individuals seeking daytime availability. Schedule
- Monday through Thursday: 8:15 pm to 1:15 am
- Friday: 7:15 pm to midnight
Responsibilities
- Secure doors and windows of all areas and all buildings
- Assist in emergency procedures
- Assist in recycling and pest control
- Help the campus and its facilities maintain a positive public image by providing a safe, clean, and comfortable environment conducive to learning for students, visitors, and employees
- Maintain all types of floor, fabric, and upholstery surfaces
- Maintain and clean restrooms, including porcelain and stainless steel surfaces, walls, floor drains, floors, etc.
- Maintain offices, classrooms, labs, conference rooms, dining room, food preparation and serving areas, and ballroom
- Maintain halls, stairs, elevators, entryways, and lobbies
- Maintain inventory and clean custodial closets and storage areas
Qualifications
- High school diploma from a standard high school or the equivalent
- Any combination of post-high school education and/or directly related full-time experience to the Summary of Duties totaling six months is required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Training in the proper use and disposal of hazardous chemicals and products
- Body fluid cleanup and proper protection
- Proper radio communications
- Pest control
- All floor types, such as terrazzo, cement, wood, vinyl, and ceramic tile, as well as carpet fibers, weaves, and backings
- Waxes/polishes, acids, other chemicals, buffers, extractors, vacuums, and scrubbers
- Current cleaning techniques and proper cleaning chemicals
Skills:
- Good interpersonal communication skills
Ability to:
- Withstand strenuous and adverse working conditions
- Follow oral and written instructions
- Perform skilled custodial duties, equipment maintenance, and minor plumbing
